Alex Pelosi's latest film on HBO tonight

Alexandra Pelosi's latest documentary “Friends of God: A Road Trip With Alexandra Pelosi” will be on HBO tonight. She's the youngest child of Nancy Pelosi. It was Alexandra's new baby Paul Michael Vos (who was born in mid-November just as it was sinking in that the Democrats had taken control of both House and Senate) whom our new Speaker was cradling for the cameras on the first day of the 110th Congress.

I've seen her Journeys With George. She's a good filmmaker. Helped me understand how Americans could fall for someone like George W. Bush. Hanging out with him is like hanging out with a good-natured neighbor.

If your next-door neighbor told you Saddam was out to kill your family, would you doubt him? No. What possible motive could your next-door neighbor have in making something up like that? You have no reason not to believe neighbor George. In fact, you'd be grateful to him for letting you know, b/c you yourself don't have time to follow the news in depth or read books on foreign affairs. So if he shouts over the fence, Hey, the towelheads are coming! You don't question him. You think, Thank God for George. He's a wonderful man for warning us. If it turns out he was wrong, you think, Well, he meant well...

A year and a half ago, she came out with the book, Sneaking Into the Flying Circus: How the Media Turn Our Presidential Campaigns into Freak Shows, w/c I haven't read and probably won't get around to.

Her latest film, 'Friends of God,' is about the culture war between Christian conservatives and the rest of us. She says she wanted to “humanize evangelical Christians.” And guess whom she happened to have as a guide in that endeavor? Ted Haggard. The anti-gay basher who turned out to have hired a man to service his sexual and drug needs on a monthly basis. (The truth about Haggard came out after the footage for the documentary had been shot.)

In a recent NYT article, she says, "...if you give me the choice of Paris Hilton or Jesus, I’ll take Jesus.”

At this point in my life, I'll take Paris. But only if Ivanka is not available.
