DVD Marathon: The Departed

"I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me."
Can you believe Jack Nicholson turned 70 today? I've got to say that for once in recent memory, I agree with the Academy: The Departed is the best film of 2006. But during the Oscars did you hear the announcer call Infernal Affairs a Japanese movie? 神经病! (or whatever the equivalent is in Cantonese)

Elevator doors open, pop! One main character is dead. Another elevator's doors open, pop! The only other good guy on the scene is dead! As if all this riveting action weren't enough, we get a serious exploration of deception and of the concept of identity. Major props to William Monahan for his screenplay and Thelma Schoonmaker for her editing. Leonardo di Caprio, Alec Baldwin, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, helmsman Martin Scorsese — all perfect.

So why four and a half stars and not five? The line "What about the baby?" was superfluous. Sorry I barely noticed the score by Howard Shore. Which means it's good, right?
